The governing body of Pen Pych C.P.S is made up of parents, teachers at the school, local council representatives, community representatives and co-opted members from the local community able to bring their particular specialist qualities to the governing body.
The governing body has legal duties, powers and responsibilities and are appointed to help decide what is taught within the school, decide how the school budget is spent, interview and select staff and set codes of behaviour and discipline. They normally meet at least once a term.
I worked for most of my career as a local government officer with Mid Glamorgan and Rhondda Cynon Taff Councils. At various times I had responsibility for school admissions and support and training for school governors. My previous employment experience, and my life experience as a parent of two children, has been valuable in helping me to make an effective contribution as a school governor at Pen pych Primary School.
I have been a parent governor for over four years, I have two boys currently at the school and my eldest son is in Treorchy Comprehensive after coming through the school. I’m a dedicated TA at the school and I’m passionate about the continuing success of the school.
I have been a parent governor for 5 years I have two boy’s at the school. I’m currently chair of the governing body and I work as a production manager at a plastics company in Swansea. I’m keen to keep the school going on its improvement journey.
I have lived in Merthyr Tydfil for most of my life and I am married with two sons. I am a Managing Director of a Packaging Company in Merthyr Tydfil. I have served an apprenticeship in Production Engineering. I also achieved a Further Education Teaching qualification before being employed by Mid Glamorgan County Council as a Training Manager. I enjoy taking photographs and also work as a freelance photographer. I take an active part in charity as being past Chairman and president of Merthyr “Round Table”. I am currently in the Merthyr Tydfil 41 Club. I like to socialise and travel.
My name is Tina Bassett, I am a H.L.T.A. at Pen Pych Primary School I represent all learning support staff as a TA governor. I have worked in the school since 1999 when the school first opened. I have many years of experience of being on a governor’s panel, supporting and using my experience to helping the school move forward. I look forward to many more years ahead working and supporting all at Pen Pych.
My name is Sandra and I am the teacher representative. I have been a governor at Pen pych for the last 2 years and I have been a teacher at the school since 1999. I have taught in both the foundation phase and key stage 2 classes, and I am currently the year 6 teacher with responsibility for K.S. 2 and mathematics throughout the school.
My name is Irene Pearce local councillor for Treherbert ward since 2012. I am on the governing body of Penpych and Penyrenglyn schools. I am a people person and find it easy to get on with people I am concerned about the schools the beautiful Rhondda valley and the quality of life for all of us I always endeavour to make a difference when I can.
I am married and both live and work local to the school proximity. I am delighted to be involved with the development within the school as well as ensuring the pupils have fun whilst they learn.
Natasha Foster Community Governor. I am the designated Police Community Officer for the Treherbert ward. I am fortunate to have an office base at Pen Pych Community School where I support the pupils and their families.
My name is Vicki & I’m a parent governor. I live in Tynewydd with my husband and daughter who attends Pen Pych. My back ground is in office management & executive support and I currently work for the Masco UK Window Group as a PA based at our Griffin Windows site in Treorchy. Outside of work my hobbies include being a guider at the local Brownie pack which is great fun, walking in our amazing countryside with my dogs Dave & Bert, and spending quality time with my family & friends.
